Operations Supervisor

Position Summary

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of Fire N Ice Arena, a multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility featuring two ice rinks, dry-floor event space, retail operations, and public gathering areas. This position supervises Operations Leads and Operations Technicians while ensuring the facility operates safely, efficiently, and in accordance with organizational standards.

The Operations Supervisor provides leadership for ice operations, facility maintenance, event conversions, staffing, safety compliance, and guest experience. This role serves as a key member of the operations management team and assists the Director of Operations in achieving departmental goals, maintaining facility assets, and supporting revenue-generating programs and events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

• Supervise daily operations of the arena, including ice facilities, dry-floor event spaces, public areas, and support spaces.
• Provide direct supervision of Operations Leads and Operations Technicians.
• Establish daily work assignments and operational priorities.
• Ensure facility readiness for all scheduled events, programs, practices, tournaments, and public activities.
• Serve as Manager-on-Duty during assigned shifts and events.
• Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Assist the Director of Operations with implementation of departmental policies and procedures.

Staffing & Employee Development

• Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training operational staff.
• Develop employee schedules and coordinate staffing coverage.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
• Monitor employee productivity, attendance, and compliance with workplace expectations.
• Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment focused on accountability and professional growth.
• Assist with disciplinary actions and employee relations matters as needed.

Ice Operations Oversight

• Oversee daily ice maintenance activities and ensure quality standards are consistently achieved.
• Coordinate resurfacing schedules, ice maintenance programs, and special event requirements.
• Monitor refrigeration systems and coordinate repairs with maintenance vendors when necessary.
• Ensure compliance with industry best practices for arena and ice operations.
• Support seasonal ice installation and removal projects.

Event Operations & Facility Conversions

• Plan and oversee event setup, breakdown, and conversion schedules.
• Coordinate staffing and operational resources for tournaments, concerts, graduations, community events, and other arena programming.
• Collaborate with event management personnel to ensure operational requirements are met.
• Monitor event execution and resolve operational challenges as they arise.
• Ensure event spaces meet safety, cleanliness, and presentation standards.

Facility Maintenance & Asset Management

• Coordinate preventative maintenance programs and facility inspections.
• Monitor work orders, maintenance requests, and repair schedules.
• Assist with vendor management and contractor oversight.
• Maintain inventory of operational equipment, tools, supplies, and consumables.
• Ensure proper maintenance of ice equipment, forklifts, lifts, utility vehicles, and facility assets.
• Support long-term capital maintenance planning and facility improvement projects.

Safety & Risk Management

• Enforce OSHA regulations, PPE requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and facility safety standards.
• Ensure staff receive appropriate safety training and certifications.
• Conduct routine safety inspections and hazard assessments.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-miss events.
• Complete incident documentation and recommend corrective actions.
• Support emergency preparedness planning and emergency response procedures.

Budget & Administrative Support

• Assist with management of departmental labor budgets and operational expenses.
• Monitor staffing levels and overtime utilization.
• Track inventory, supply usage, and equipment expenditures.
• Prepare operational reports and maintain departmental records.
• Assist with annual operating plans and departmental budgeting processes.

Guest Experience

• Ensure a safe, welcoming, and professional environment for guests, athletes, officials, tenants, and event participants.
• Address escalated guest concerns and operational issues.
• Support customer service initiatives and facility presentation standards.
• Foster a culture focused on exceptional guest experiences.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of three to five years of arena, sports facility, entertainment venue, recreation facility, or operations management experience.
• Minimum of one to three years of supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of facility operations, maintenance, event logistics, and staff management.
• Experience operating ice resurfacing equipment and supporting ice operations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and operational reporting systems.
• Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ice arena management experience.
• Experience with refrigeration systems, HVAC systems, and facility infrastructure.
• Certified Ice Technician (CIT) designation or equivalent industry certification.
• CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
• Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
• Experience managing contractors and service vendors.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk, stand, climb, bend, and inspect facility areas for extended periods.
• Ability to work in cold environments and varying weather conditions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to respond to facility emergencies and operational incidents.
• Ability to perform occasional hands-on operational work when required.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position. Schedule requirements will vary based on facility programming and operational needs. Evening, weekend, holiday, and occasional overnight coverage may be required. Supervisors are expected to maintain flexibility to support major events, tournaments, facility emergencies, and staffing needs.
