Ice Rink Guard

Position Summary

The Ice Rink Guard is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and enjoyment of all guests participating in skating programs and public activities within the facility. This position serves as the primary safety monitor during public skating sessions, special events, and designated ice activities.

Ice Rink Guards actively supervise skaters, enforce facility policies, respond to incidents and emergencies, and provide exceptional customer service. The position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and professional environment during public skating programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Guest Safety and Supervision

• Monitor all public skating sessions and designated on-ice activities.
• Enforce facility rules, policies, and safety procedures.
• Identify unsafe behavior and intervene promptly and professionally.
• Assist beginner skaters and provide basic skating guidance when appropriate.
• Monitor rink capacity and traffic flow.
• Ensure guests comply with posted rules and staff instructions.
• Maintain awareness of all activity occurring on and around the ice surface.
• Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or facility hazards immediately.

Emergency Response

• Respond to accidents, injuries, and emergencies in a calm and professional manner.
• Administer First Aid, CPR, and AED assistance within certification guidelines.
• Activate emergency response procedures when necessary.
• Assist with facility evacuations and emergency action plan implementation.
• Coordinate with supervisors, security personnel, and emergency responders.
• Complete detailed incident and accident reports before the end of the shift.

Customer Service

• Welcome guests and provide a positive first impression of the facility.
• Answer questions regarding facility programs, schedules, and policies.
• Address customer concerns professionally and respectfully.
• Promote a safe, family-friendly, and enjoyable atmosphere.
• Assist guests with directions and facility navigation.

Arena Operations Support

• Conduct pre-opening and post-closing inspections.
• Monitor spectator areas, locker room entrances, gates, boards, and glass.
• Assist with public session transitions.
• Support tournaments, figure skating events, hockey events, and special programs.
• Assist Operations Technicians and Supervisors with crowd management and event operations as assigned.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned work areas.

Arena-Specific Responsibilities

As part of the Fire N Ice multi-purpose sports and entertainment arena, Ice Rink Guards may assist with:

• Public skating sessions
• Youth and adult hockey programs
• Figure skating sessions
• Learn-to-Skate programs
• Tournaments and special events
• Dry-floor conversions and community events
• School and group visits
• Concerts, exhibitions, and special arena events

Ice Rink Guards are expected to maintain a visible presence and support overall facility safety during all operational activities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16 years.
• Ability to skate proficiently and confidently.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
• Ability to successfully complete facility training requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in recreation, sports, or customer service environments.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
• Experience working with youth programs or public recreation facilities.
• Prior ice rink or sports facility experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and skate for extended periods.
• Ability to work in cold temperatures typical of ice rink environments.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to quickly respond to emergencies and guest needs.
• Ability to navigate crowded environments safely.

Work Schedule Expectations

Facility operating hours may range from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. daily.

Employees should expect to work:

• Days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• Variable schedules based on operational needs.

Part-time employees may typically work between 15 and 25 hours per week depending on facility needs and availability.

Schedules are subject to change based on programming, events, and seasonal demands.

Compensation and Benefits

Eligible employees may receive:

• Hourly wage of $16.00 to $19.00 per hour.
