Data Scientist — AI Agents | Fintech Startup | Midtown New York | $150k–$200k

The Opportunity
A well-funded, revenue-generating AI startup is scaling its core technical team. Already embedded with some of the world's largest financial institutions, they're building next-generation AI agent systems that automate complex financial workflows and they're looking for a talented Data Scientist to join as one of their earliest hires.
This is a rare chance to work directly with experienced founders (backgrounds include top-tier tech and private equity), own meaningful technical decisions from day one, and help shape a product with real traction in a trillion-dollar market.
What You'll Do
- Design, implement, and evaluate LLM-based agentic AI systems for real-world financial workflows
- Build evaluation frameworks to track and optimise AI agent performance over time
- Apply prompt engineering, context optimisation, and adapter tuning to improve LLM outputs
- Explore and prototype cutting-edge AI architectures (ReAct, graph-of-thoughts, ensembling, etc.)
- Apply data science and ML techniques to tasks like financial screening, due diligence, and asset monitoring
- Translate statistical insights for non-technical and executive stakeholders
What We're Looking For
- 5–10 years of experience in data science or AI/ML engineering
- Demonstrable experience building production LLM applications and agentic systems not just training models
- Strong Python skills and comfort with data analysis at scale
- Experience designing evaluation frameworks for AI systems
- A daily AI user you actively use tools like Claude, Cursor, or ChatGPT in your own workflow
- Clear communicator who can present complex ideas simply
Bonus Points:
- Background in financial services, investment analysis, or risk modelling
- Experience with ML deployment pipelines or embedded analytics
