This is a 100% field-based position, working outdoors in wetlands, open space areas, riparian corridors, and remote natural habitats. Our lab is based in Fort Collins, CO, and our field team travels each day; however, we are flexible and can meet technicians directly at designated field sites when needed.

This role requires flexibility, physical stamina, and comfort working in variable outdoor conditions.

Technicians Will Assist With
- Monitoring wetland biodiversity
- Collecting aquatic macroinvertebrates
- Conducting mosquito larval surveillance
- Recording field data using mobile devices
- Supporting site surveys
This role requires flexibility, physical stamina, and comfort working in variable outdoor conditions.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct field surveys at wetland and riparian sites
- Record site characteristics, water depths, habitat conditions, and wildlife observations.
- Collect aquatic insects and macroinvertebrates using nets and trays.
- Identify mosquito larvae to genus and assess population levels.
- Set, retrieve, and document adult mosquito traps as assigned.
- Record all observations and data using a tablet or smartphone.
- Navigate to remote field sites using maps/GPS.
- Maintain field gear, keep equipment clean and functional.
- Work safely in wetlands, uneven terrain, heavy vegetation, and high-mosquito environments.
- No college degree required.
- Interest in aquatic ecology, entomology, biology, or environmental science.
- Ability to learn field sampling techniques and follow established protocols.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate data recording.
- Reliability, positive attitude, and ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility with work hours — schedule shifts weekly based on weather and project needs.
- Ability to work long days outdoors, walk long distances, stand for extended periods, and lift/move equipment (up to ~40 lbs).
- Comfortable working in mud, heat, rain, wetlands, tall vegetation, and buggy conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Coursework or experience in ecology, aquatic biology, entomology, wildlife biology, or natural resources.
- Experience with field sampling or outdoor labor.
- Comfort identifying insects or wildlife to basic taxonomic groups.
- Work is entirely outdoors in wetlands, riparian zones, and open spaces.
- Exposure to sun, heat, rain, mud, insects, uneven terrain, and wildlife.
- Daily driving to multiple field sites.
- Occasional long or irregular days depending on field conditions.
