Position Overview
The Senior Technical Accountant will lead complex accounting initiatives, including technical accounting research, revenue recognition, and policy development. This role will ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, FAR, and other regulatory requirements, while supporting financial reporting and strategic transactions. The ideal candidate has a strong technical accounting foundation, experience in a Big 4 or public accounting environment, and familiarity with government contracting or technology companies.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, interpret, and document technical accounting guidance (ASC) for complex transactions, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), and equity or debt arrangements.
- Draft and maintain accounting policies and memos, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company standards.
- Support revenue recognition for government contracts, including analysis of performance obligations and contract modifications.
- Assist with SEC reporting (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) and preparation of financial statement disclosures, if applicable.
- Partner with FP&A, Legal, and Contracts teams to evaluate accounting implications of new business arrangements.
- Support month-end close for technical areas, including complex journal entries and reconciliations.
- Lead or assist with audit readiness, including preparation of schedules and coordination with external auditors.
- Monitor and implement new accounting standards, ensuring timely adoption and compliance.
- Identify and drive process improvements in accounting and financial reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required or strongly preferred.
- 3–7 years of accounting experience, including public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and/or industry technical accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including ASC 606 and other complex accounting areas.
- Experience in government contracting, defense, or technology environments preferred.
- Familiarity with FAR, DCAA, and contract-based revenue recognition is a plus.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or Costpoint) preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document technical positions.
