The Staff Accountant will support the accounting and financial reporting functions for a portfolio of real estate assets. This role is responsible for assisting with month-end close, maintaining accurate general ledger activity, and preparing property-level financials. The position works closely with property management and finance teams to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Responsibilities
- Prepare journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and reclassifications
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Maintain the general ledger and perform account reconciliations, including bank and balance sheet accounts
- Prepare monthly financial statements for assigned properties and analyze variances to budget and prior periods
- Track rental income, operating expenses, and capital expenditures, ensuring accurate recording
- Support accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice coding and tenant payment tracking
- Maintain organized financial records and support audit and tax requests
- Collaborate with property management and asset management teams to resolve discrepancies
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and company accounting policies
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- One to three years of accounting experience is preferred, with exposure to real estate or property accounting considered a plus.
- A foundational understanding of GAAP and strong Excel skills are expected.
- Experience with real estate accounting systems such as Yardi or MRI Software is a plus.
