The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for managing all aspects of payroll processing, reconciliation, and reporting in a government contracting environment. This role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint, and a deep understanding of DCAA, FAR, and FLSA compliance. The Payroll Accountant will partner closely with HR, Accounting, and Project Control teams to ensure payroll accuracy and integrity across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Process biweekly and semi-monthly payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees using Deltek Costpoint.
- Review and reconcile labor distribution reports, ensuring payroll costs are accurately charged to appropriate contracts and projects.
- Validate timekeeping data and ensure compliance with DCAA and FAR labor charging standards.
- Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations within the general ledger.
- Support payroll tax filings, W-2 processing, and benefit-related deductions in coordination with third-party vendors.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and assist with internal and external audits.
- Collaborate with HR to onboard new employees, set up pay structures, and maintain current employee payroll data.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency, compliance, and reporting accuracy.
- Assist with financial reporting and support month-end and year-end close activities related to payroll and labor costs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3–6 years of experience in payroll accounting, preferably within a government contracting environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Deltek Costpoint and Time & Expense modules (required).
- Solid understanding of FAR, DCAA, and FLSA regulations and their impact on labor accounting.
- Experience reconciling payroll to the general ledger and preparing supporting schedules for audits.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a proactive, analytical mindset
