GENERAL PURPOSE Under the general guidance and direction of the Membership & Operations Supervisor or shift lead, this position is responsible for daily operations in the child watch area. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assists in the operational functions of the Child Watch area. Ensures a clean and safe Child Watch area. Cares for children in a safe and appropriate way. Interacts with children and parents to ensure child safety, quality service, and Child Watch reservations. Follows procedure when handling cash and performing other transactions. Troubleshoots problems, enforces rules and regulations, and resolves customer concerns to ensure a safe, high-quality, pleasant recreational environment for patrons. Implements policies and procedures as needed. May be asked to assist with a variety of Recreation Center patron services, including memberships/passes/general admittance, child watch check-in and care, checking out requested sports equipment, answering questions regarding programs, services, costs, and general operating policies and procedures; monitors the general activities of patrons to ensure compliance with Recreation Center rules and regulations. Applicants will be required to submit to a criminal and child care licensing background check and drug test. Will report to work well-groomed and in uniform following applicable dress codes. Performs other duties as assigned. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Previous childcare experience is preferred but not required. Ability to work with children and remain calm in stressful situations. Must be at least 16 years of age. Must possess or be able to obtain a Red Cross CPR Certification within 3 months of hire. Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers; and continue a culture that is consistent with the department. Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job, including lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position including working early mornings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays. Must abide by all city policies and procedures. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, members, and guests. Understanding of policies and procedures. Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs. Ability to represent the department professionally to the general public. Conflict resolution skills. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must be proficient in English. Proficiency in Spanish is desired and may qualify for additional bilingual pay
