About the Position:As our Head Swim Coach, you'll operate under the general guidance of the Aquatic Management Team, ensuring the highest standards of safety and care while leading our swim program. Your key responsibilities will include:
Program Development & On-Deck Leadership
- Designing and executing innovative, age-appropriate training plans that focus on technique, endurance, and speed.
- Leading all practice sessions and meets, providing clear, constructive, and individualized feedback on stroke mechanics, starts, turns, and finishes.
- Motivating and energizing swimmers to help them reach their full potential.
- Instilling sportsmanship and discipline in a positive and encouraging environment.
Safety & Emergency Response
- Ensuring the highest safety standards at all times during practices and meets.
- Recognizing and responding quickly and effectively to emergencies within the aquatic area.
- Serving as a primary first responder to prevent injuries and maintain a safe environment.
- Working closely with staff during scheduled shifts and required in-service training.
Community & Communication
- Building strong relationships with swimmers, their families, and fellow staff.
- Serving as the primary point of contact for parents, providing regular updates on swimmer progress and upcoming events.
- Resolving customer concerns and troubleshooting issues promptly and professionally.
- Enforcing team rules and regulations in a firm yet courteous manner to ensure a high-quality, pleasant experience for all.
- Experience: A passion for aquatics and a commitment to the well-being of others. Must be at least 18 years old with a proven ability to lead and manage athletes.
- Certifications: Must possess and maintain the following American Red Cross Certifications:
- Lifeguard Training (LG)
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- Essential Skills:
- The ability to make sound and reasonable choices in difficult situations.
- The capacity to react calmly to stressful situations and help resolve conflicts that may arise.
- Excellent communication skills across all age groups, including the ability to handle complaints effectively and enforce rules firmly while maintaining strong public relations.
- The ability to lead and manage peers and other employees.
- Language: Must be proficient in English.
- Physical Demands: You must be able to perform the physical demands of the job, including standing for long periods, swimming, and lifting up to 80 pounds.
- Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position, including working some early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must abide by all city policies and procedures. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, swimmers, and guests.
