Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District TITLE OF POSITION: Director of Technology

QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must minimally

have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, with concentration in technology, computer science, education, or related field, preferred.
  • DESE Administrative or Supervisory license required.
  • Three to five years of experience managing technological infrastructure and systems in a large organization including but not limited to hyperconverged server environment, optical LAN, Microsoft 365, Apple OS, cloud-based applications/environment, and phone and photocopier system management.
  • Supervisory experience with strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; ability to effectively articulate complex technological topics to a wide range of audiences.
  • Experience with technology applications within an educational environment and knowledge of current educational and technology trends.

REPORTS TO: Director of Finance and Operations

SUPERVISES: Technology Department Staff

JOB GOAL:

The Director of Technology leads his/her department in identifying and meeting the needs of a broad range of stakeholders and users of technology within the district. He/She collaborates and communicates effectively with other district leaders in planning for and implementing changes in operating systems, software applications, classroom technology needs, and staff and student technology needs. They coordinate with outside vendors and service providers to ensure that the district’s technology infrastructure, systems, and end-user devices are always operating reliably and efficiently.


PERFORMANCE:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate the implementation, evaluation and revision of the District’s Technology Plan with input from a broad range of district stakeholders.
  • Participate in the planning process, when necessary, for the effective use, and equitable access of technology to support and enhance curriculum, teaching, and learning in grades Pre-K to 12.
  • Participate in the development of the District’s technology budget(s), including technology-based capital acquisitions and improvements.
  • Manage the District technology budget to achieve annual and long-term goals and
  • Participate in the development of E-Rate program and other grant applications and manage the implementation of approved projects.

  • Oversee and provide technical support (tickets) for networks, devices, systems, and applications in schools and school district offices, involving district and outside staff as appropriate, and providing staff training as needed.
  • Manage network operations, including a continuing network monitoring and evaluation
  • Coordinate the acquisition, inventory, installation, maintenance, support, repair, and replacement of network hardware, technology and devices, software, and web-based applications throughout the school system.
  • Arrange, implement, maintain and support district and network security including cyber security training; updates, distribution and control of usernames and passwords; and building video surveillance and access systems.
  • Serve as the school district liaison with necessary vendors, and conduct procurement of technology hardware and software as needed.

  • Remain current on developments in technology and advise the Director of Finance & Operations and the Administrative Team, and the Technology Advisory Committee regarding technology innovations in management and instructional systems.
  • Guide technical support for instructional technology programs in classrooms, libraries, and labs and on instructional networks.
  • Provide and/or coordinate technology-related professional development to district
  • Work with the Special Education Department to support assistive technology
  • Maintain an inventory of software purchases and licenses to ensure district compliance with copyright laws and guidelines.
  • Ensure district compliance with state and federal technology mandates and initiatives as well as any applicable state and federal laws (such as CIPA, COPPA, NCLB, document retention).
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent or the Director of Finance and

Physical Requirements: The position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing,

sitting, and climbing stairs and step stool whenever necessary. Activities also include moderate physical exertion in body movement such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing, and pulling of objects. The position requires lifting objects of 20 pounds on a frequent basis, and over 20 pounds occasionally.

There is a frequent requirement of fine manipulation associated with the required use of standard office machines.


Environmental Conditions
: The occupant is required to work indoors. The regular chemical

solvents used are toners and cleaning fluids.
