Statement Of Primary Purpose
The Health Sciences College Navigator is responsible for providing direction, information, personal attention and support to students in the early stages (pre-major) of their competitive health sciences program path. The Health Sciences College Navigator will ensure student understanding and connection to the competitive program process by helping to remove barriers to student application and progression into one of SCC’s limited enrollment health sciences programs.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in education, communication, health sciences or related field required.
Skills
Knowledge and Skills
Ability to be a team player, a problem solver, to follow complex directions, to be a multi-tasker, and must have a demonstrated ability to work independently with good judgment in decision-making.
Minimum two years’ experience in college advising, success coaching, or related field.

Valid NC Driver’s License
Working Conditions and Environment
Standard College business hours Monday-Friday with some evening or weekend hours as needed.
Position is based on the Jackson Campus with periodic travel to other SCC locations in Macon and Swain Counties

PC, copier, phones, standard office, and educational applications.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Provide proactive and individualized competitive application coaching to a student caseload facilitated by an early alert/advising system powered by predictive analytics.
- Engage students in competitive application planning activities (reviewing each competitive phase) to help them connect and achieve their health career goals. Communicate Health Science Program deadlines and competitive admissions criteria.
- Provide advising support for health sciences pre-majors.
- Interpret health sciences policies and procedures which impact the competitive health sciences application process.
- Empower students to effectively communicate with faculty and student services to become better connected with resources and support services such as financial aid, career services, counseling and disability services.
- Attend Health Sciences department meetings, engage with health sciences faculty/staff to remain current with departmental policies and procedures.
- Monitor student progress in completing the competitive application process.
- Submit a monthly monitoring report to your supervisor.
- Make recommendations to direct supervisor and faculty partners about improvements to design of success coaching delivery that could result in improvements in persistence and completion along and other project deliverables to maximize future implementation and scalability.
- Serve as a counselor for the SHIFT Summer Camp Program.
- Assist with SHIFT events and activities in the public school and at the college
- Provide tours and presentations about health science programs
- Participate in New Student Orientation, Career Days, Job Fairs, Open Houses, and other activities for supporting student success
