Job Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Medical Billing Clerk to provide administrative and financial support within a healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will manage billing operations, ensure compliance with financial systems, and support revenue cycle processes. This role requires proficiency in medical financial management systems, strong communication skills, and the ability to prepare accurate reports and documentation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain access to and manage medical financial systems, including ABACUS, EHR Genesis, OTCNet, AMPS, and CIR, ensuring systems remain mission-capable at least 90% of the time.
- Proactively troubleshoot and resolve system issues in coordination with content owners and help desk support.
- Manage the Other Health Insurance (OHI) collection process across clinical areas, including uploading DD Form 2569 insurance forms weekly and reconciling errors.
- Track and report form errors using the Discern Reporting Tool Pareto Chart as part of ongoing Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) initiatives.
- Provide feedback to clinic administrative leads and leadership regarding data collection errors twice monthly.
- Process refunds and Third Party Collection (TPC) deposits accurately and timely.
- Assist the UBO Manager with monthly audits and reconciliations of deposits and refunds.
- Support development, coordination, and implementation of Plans of Action and Milestones (POAM) for compliance deviations, updating reporting tools as required.
- Provide advice to Resource Management and OHI CPI leadership on programmatic trends, conducting research and data mining as needed.
- Assist with developing and maintaining databases, spreadsheets, and tracking systems to measure program compliance and effectiveness.
- Prepare and edit written correspondence, reports, presentations, handouts, and training materials.
- Train and support users of financial management databases and reporting systems.
- Perform other administrative and billing duties as required by the Medical Billing Clerk labor category under the base contract.
Education and Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Education: High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency. Basic medical terminology required.
- Equivalency determination requests are not permitted for this role.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required, at least two years relevant experience or specialized Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator certification required.
- Licensure and Board Certification: Not required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to accurately prepare and edit reports and correspondence.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English well enough to communicate effectively.
