Title: Energy Efficiency Specialist
Location: Newark, NJ
Location: Hybrid - Remote on Monday and Friday, in-office Tues-Thurs at Newark office potential on-site inspection once a month (3 days on-site per week currently)
Contract Duration: 12 months, with likely extension
Pay Rate: up to $95.00 per hour (w2) - Depending upon experience
Job Summary
Manage energy efficiency projects in alignment with BPU‑approved program requirements, ensuring compliance with scope, schedule, budget, and cost‑effectiveness standards. Oversee implementation processes, QA/QC, and regulatory reporting for projects involving HVAC, lighting, controls, motors, and other energy conservation measures. Interface with internal teams, vendors, customers, and consultants to maintain program integrity and deliver accurate, timely data for management and BPU reporting. Manage customer relationships, conduct site visits, and ensure high‑quality project delivery with strong vendor oversight, invoice review, and safety compliance. Analyze project performance, forecast monthly status, and compile data across multiple projects to support program reporting. Support special projects and assist during storm restoration as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Manage implementation of BPU‑approved energy efficiency programs and ensure adherence to program rules and cost‑effectiveness requirements. Oversee HVAC, lighting, controls, and other ECM project delivery, including QA/QC and site inspections. Coordinate and direct vendors and contractors, review deliverables, monitor performance, and process invoices. Maintain accurate reporting for management and regulatory needs, analyze project performance, and provide monthly forecasts. Manage customer relationships and ensure high satisfaction with program services. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and internal business controls.
Qualifications
BS degree plus five years of experience in energy efficiency, construction, or related fields, or nine years without a degree. Strong knowledge of energy efficiency measures, HVAC and lighting ECMs, and program implementation. Experience with milestone‑based payments, forecasting, and vendor management. Familiarity with BPU CEF Order, NJ Cost Test, and regulatory frameworks. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong communication skills. Ability to travel within the service territory with a valid US driver’s license. Preferred certifications include Certified Energy Manager, Building Performance Institute credentials, and ASHRAE‑related knowledge.
