Overview
A leading financial services organization is seeking an experienced Investment Operations professional to lead middle-office operations supporting institutional investment portfolios.
This role is responsible for overseeing securities master data, trade lifecycle operations, investment controls, regulatory compliance, operational risk management, and process improvement initiatives. Acting as a senior subject matter expert, you will partner closely with Portfolio Managers, Traders, Investment Accounting, Custodians, Compliance, Technology, and external vendors to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of investment operations.
The position combines operational leadership, technical expertise, project delivery, risk oversight, and stakeholder management within a sophisticated institutional investment environment.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Operations & Middle Office Management
- Lead middle-office operations supporting institutional investment portfolios
- Maintain and oversee security master data across investment platforms and reporting systems
- Research, validate, and establish new securities and investment instruments
- Ensure accurate setup and maintenance of complex fixed income, structured finance, private credit, and alternative investment products
- Monitor and resolve post-trade operational issues and compliance exceptions
Trade Lifecycle & Portfolio Support
- Manage operational activities across the full trade lifecycle, including trade capture, settlement, reconciliation, and reporting
- Investigate and resolve complex trade and securities data discrepancies
- Support collateral processing, trade reconciliations, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Partner with portfolio managers, traders, and investment accounting teams to resolve operational issues
Risk, Controls & Regulatory Compliance
- Monitor operational risks and compliance requirements across investment operations
- Support audits, control testing, quality assurance reviews, and issue remediation activities
- Ensure adherence to investment regulations, internal control frameworks, and operational policies
- Escalate compliance breaches and operational risks appropriately
- Lead testing activities across multiple lines of defense
Systems, Data & Process Improvement
- Act as subject matter expert for investment operations platforms and workflows
- Support system enhancements, automation initiatives, and operational transformation projects
- Diagnose and resolve complex system, workflow, and data integration issues
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and strengthen controls
- Contribute to technology implementations and process redesign initiatives
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as key contact for custodians, asset managers, service providers, and technology vendors
- Manage operational reviews, vendor performance assessments, and issue resolution activities
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across Investments, Compliance, Finance, Risk, and Technology
- Represent Investment Operations on cross-functional projects and governance initiatives
Leadership & Project Delivery
- Lead operational initiatives from planning through implementation
- Coordinate project resources, testing activities, and stakeholder engagement
- Provide guidance and mentorship to analysts and junior team members
- Review work products and support team development
- Act as senior operational representative when leadership is unavailable
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 8 years of investment operations, securities operations, middle-office, or asset management operations experience
- Strong understanding of securities processing, trade lifecycle management, and investment operations controls
- Knowledge of securities regulations and operational risk frameworks
- Experience supporting institutional investment portfolios
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills
- Experience leading projects and cross-functional initiatives
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management capabilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with investment platforms such as Aladdin, PAM, or similar systems
- Expertise in security master data management and complex financial instruments
- Experience with investment control frameworks, audits, and regulatory compliance
- Knowledge of fixed income, structured products, private credit, and alternative investments
- Experience working with custodians, fund administrators, and third-party service providers
- Data analysis and database experience supporting operational reporting and process automation
- Demonstrated experience mentoring team members and acting as a senior subject matter expert
