What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant I (General Ledger) position at SOCIAL VOCATIONAL SERVICES?
Position Purpose: Preparation, entry and posting of journal entries, reconciliation of general ledger accounts, preparation, distribution and maintenance of various financial and month-end reports. Performs month-end closes and provides assistance with year-end closes, including the preparation of closing journal entries and year-end entries and schedules related to fiscal year audits.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and enter monthly amortizations, journal entries and necessary accruals to accurately report and record the organization’s financial transactions.
- Record monthly credit card entries
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date General Ledger schedules.
- Perform month-end processes and assist in year-end processes.
- Assist with internal and independent audits by providing records and supporting schedules.
- Assist in generating year-end 1099 IRS forms.
- Positive Pay Check Exceptions, Check Voids
- Daily Banking in Senior Accountant’s absence
- Assist with developments of internal control policies and procedures.
- Maintains familiarity with all Accounting Applications and Software.
- Other duties as assigned by the Senior Accountant Manager.
- All Duties and responsibilities must be accomplished in compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Mandated Abuse Reporter
Education and Work Experience: Bachelors Degree in accounting, finance, business or closely related discipline preferred; one year accounting experience preferred, with solid general accounting knowledge and computer-based accounting experience necessary. Proficiency in Excel required, Windows and knowledge of Accounting Systems preferred. Detailed oriented and self-motivated with strong organizational skills; excellent English verbal and written communication skills
