Fund Accountant Analyst

Non profit Organization looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to join the senior finance team with a multi-hundred-million-dollar endowment and a complex, dynamic operation.

Title: Financial Analyst

Location: Canaan, CT

Salary: $75,000 - $90,000

Responsibilities:

• Lead development and maintenance of integrated multi-year financial models (5- and 10-year outlooks) aligned with institutional strategic planning
• Provide data-driven recommendations supporting tuition setting, financial aid budgeting, and program expansion decisions
• Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including budget-to-actual analysis, for senior leadership and Board of Trustees
• Partner with Facilities leadership to maintain and model a 10-year capital projects and deferred maintenance plan
• Lead the annual budgeting process using a zero-based budgeting approach, managing request and approval workflow
• Collaborate with department heads to support budget development and ongoing budget management
• Develop rolling forecasts; monitor financial performance and analyze variances, risks, and emerging trends
• Support Advancement with financial modeling and reporting
• Support daily Business Office operations including financial reporting and expense tracking
• Assist in preparing materials and recording minutes for Trustee Committee meetings (Audit & Risk, Finance, Investment, Buildings & Grounds)
• Bring benchmarking and best-practice insights to recommend process and reporting improvements

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
• 7–10 years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis, strategic finance, or related discipline
• Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CFA) preferred
• Demonstrated expertise building and maintaining complex, integrated financial models, including multi-year projections and scenario analysis
• Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning within a complex organization
• Proven ability to translate financial data into clear, actionable recommendations that influence senior leadership decisions
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to convey complex financial concepts to both financial and non-financial audiences, including Board-level stakeholders
• High initiative and proactive approach to process improvement
• Strong project management skills; able to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and attention to detail.
