The Cost Accountant will oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations related to cost accounting, inventory, and month‑end activities. This role manages two accounting staff and partners closely with the Director of Finance to ensure accurate financial reporting, optimize costing processes, and support continued organizational growth. Title: Accountant (cost/project accountant)
Location: Middlefield, CT / San Diego, CA (hybrid after 3-6 months)
Potential Compensation: $95,000-110,000
Key Responsibilities
Cost & Inventory Accounting
- Maintain and update standard costs, bill of materials, and costing models.
- Lead inventory accounting, including reconciliations, adjustments, and accuracy controls across multiple locations.
- Analyze and report cost variances, production variances, and purchasing variances.
Financial Close & Reporting
- Oversee and participate in the month‑end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial results.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly financial schedules.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Support the development of the annual budget and periodic forecasts.
- Conduct budget-to-actual analysis and present key findings to leadership.
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure payroll tax compliance and support payroll accounting activities.
- Maintain strong internal controls over inventory, costing, and financial reporting processes.
Qualifications
- 5 years of professional accounting experience, with a strong focus on cost accounting and inventory.
- Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or product‑based industry preferred.
- Knowledge of NetSuite or similar ERP required; NetSuite experience strongly preferred.
- CPA credential preferred (or in progress).
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency with Excel and financial reporting tools.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and interest in mentoring and guiding staff.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment undergoing organizational change.
Salary : $95,000 - $110,000
