Position Summary

The primary responsibility for this position is for the general cleaning of offices, breakrooms, restrooms, conference rooms, training areas, elevators, stairwells, and common areas for the assigned sections in SMC³ facilities in accordance to Building Services Department standards.

This position will also complete additional projects for SMC³ facilities as assigned by Senior Facilities Manager or Facilities Team Lead.

This position may also assist in backing up responsibilities for other Facilities Care Specialist in their absence as needed.

2 nd shift position hours: Monday – Friday 5:00 pm to 1:30 am.

Essential Job Functions

  • Under general direction and supervision, clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
  • Under general direction and supervision, empty trash and bag replacement.
  • Under general direction and supervision, clean stairwells and elevators.
  • Under general direction and supervision; service, clean, and stock restrooms.
  • Under general direction and supervision, clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
  • Under general direction and supervision; clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
  • Under general direction and supervision; dust furniture, fixtures, walls, pictures, cabinets, desks, and tables.
  • Under general direction and supervision, spot clean carpets.
  • Follow procedures and safety standards for the use of chemical cleaners and equipment in accordance to Departmental guidelines.
  • Maintain sidewalks and walkways.
  • Under general direction and supervision; set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, and chairs to prepare facilities for events such as meetings and holiday displays.
  • Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
  • Notify Building Facilities Supervisor or Facilities Team Lead concerning the need for repairs to facilities or equipment.
  • Participates in weekly/monthly/annual cleaning schedules.
  • Attends all required training, in-service, and team meetings.
  • Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents and safe practices.
  • Maintains a positive and professional demeanor toward tenants and co-workers.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures outlined in Building Services SOP.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May be required to work overtime as work dictates within 72 hours’ notice or as emergencies arise.

Qualifications/Education/Skills

  • High School Diploma, GED or comparable education.
  • Minimum 1 year related work experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of basic cleaning equipment and chemicals a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must be punctual, dependable, and reliable.
  • Must be able to follow instructions.
  • Must be able to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Work Environment

  • This job works with different types of Class 2 “household” chemicals to clean and maintain the environment. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • Personal Protective Equipment is supplied for employee use.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, kneel, climb, lunge, stoop, bend, squat for minimum to extended periods of time with use of arms, hands, or fingers in a moderate to vigorous motion for cleaning or reaching. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to wear up to 10 pounds on back to operate vacuum.
