CBP Compliance Specialist

About the Role
SmartTalent is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented CBP Compliance Specialist for a client in the Tacoma, WA area. This role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations within a fast-paced warehouse and logistics environment. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with bonded inventory, customs documentation, and regulatory processes, and can confidently serve as a compliance resource across operations.
Key Responsibilities
· Ensure compliance with all applicable CBP regulations, including bonded warehouse operations and in-bond freight handling
· Manage and audit bonded inventory, including receipts, transfers, shortages, overages, and releases
· Review and maintain CBP documentation such as Forms 214, 216, 3499, 7501, and in-bond paperwork
· Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and CBP officers regarding entries, holds, and releases
· Monitor warehouse operations to ensure proper segregation of bonded and non-bonded freight
· Support CBP exams, audits, and compliance reviews as a primary point of contact
· Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to inventory, documentation, and compliance issues
· Maintain accurate and compliant recordkeeping practices
· Develop and enforce SOPs while providing compliance training to internal teams
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
· Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in CBP compliance, bonded warehouse operations, 3PL logistics, or customs brokerage
· Strong working knowledge of CBP regulations and bonded inventory control processes
· Experience handling customs documentation and interacting with CBP officers and brokers
· Familiarity with WMS systems and customs platforms such as ACE/ABI
· High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to problem-solve in a fast-paced environment
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Preferred Qualifications
· Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or actively pursuing licensure
· Experience supporting CBP audits or compliance assessments
· Familiarity with FTZ operations or PGA requirements
· Experience in a high-volume or multi-client logistics environment
Work Environment
This role operates in both an office and warehouse setting, and involves regular interaction with regulatory agencies. Flexibility may be required during audits or peak operational periods.
