Overview
The Accounting Manager oversees the daily accounting operations and financial management activities within a logistics or transportation organization. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory standards, and effective coordination between finance and operations to support business performance and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
- Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Oversee cost accounting related to fleet operations, fuel usage, freight billing, and third-party logistics expenses.
- Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses to support strategic decision-making.
- Reconcile balance sheets and ensure accuracy in revenue recognition, accruals, and expense allocations.
- Collaborate with operations teams to track shipment costs, customer billing, and carrier payments.
- Manage audits, tax filings, and compliance with federal, state, and transportation industry regulations.
- Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency in accounting systems and internal controls.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing training and performance feedback.
- Partner with senior management to support financial planning, cost control, and cash flow management initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience within the logistics, transportation, or supply chain industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing accounting teams and coordinating cross-functional financial initiatives.
