Position Summary
The Pastoral Care Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, and facilitation of religious and sacramental services for Sisters residing at Immanuel Village and Newport, while also supporting the spiritual needs of Sisters in surrounding facilities. This role works both individually and collaboratively to provide spiritual and emotional care, and serves as a key member of the Health & Wellness/Sister Life Minister Team in the Omaha area.

The Pastoral Care Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, and facilitation of religious and sacramental services for Sisters residing at Immanuel Village and Newport, while also supporting the spiritual needs of Sisters in surrounding facilities. This role works both individually and collaboratively to provide spiritual and emotional care, and serves as a key member of the Health & Wellness/Sister Life Minister Team in the Omaha area.
Key Responsibilities
Pastoral Care & Spiritual Leadership
- Coordinate and facilitate liturgical and sacramental services, including scheduling clergy and preparing worship environments
- Plan and implement spiritual enrichment programs, retreats, and observances for liturgical seasons and feast days
- Chair the funeral committee and coordinate services with funeral homes
- Lead planning efforts for jubilees, holidays, and birthdays
- Provide education and guidance related to spirituality, aging, loss, and life transitions
- Offer and facilitate rituals that support transitions in care
- Deliver compassionate spiritual and emotional support to individuals and groups
- Connect Sisters with spiritual direction and development opportunities
- Provide access to religious materials and resources
- Offer spiritual care support during hospital stays
- Participate in interdisciplinary care planning as part of the Health & Wellness/Sister Life Minister Team
- Provide safe transportation as needed
- Work onsite at Sisters of Mercy office and/or Immanuel Village and Newport
- Participate in weekend and holiday services and events as needed
- Assist with Health and Wellness On-Call phone as needed
- Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment
- Follow all safety procedures and respond appropriately in emergency situations
- Report hazards and potential concerns promptly
- Demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and strong communication
- Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and ethical standards
- Collaborate effectively with team members and leadership
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religion, Spiritual Care, or a related field and/or equivalent combination of education & experience
- NACC or ACPE certification (or equivalent experience)
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Proficiency with basic computer systems
- 1-3 years of experience working with seniors in a Senior Living facility setting, parish, or Catholic non-profit ministry
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Minimum of two years of chaplaincy experience
- Experience working with senior populations
- Background in healthcare or a religious organization
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- Demonstrated ability to guide, mentor, and serve as a role model
