JOB SUMMARY:
Provides leadership for assigned nursing units during their assigned shifts as a front line leader. Assumes shift responsibility and accountability for assigned units. Is responsible for monitoring performance of nursing unit staff and addressing issues. Leads the patient and administrative activities of the unit. Leads in the discharge process to ensure all discharges are completed within a timely manner. Contributes nursing input in conjunction with the Nurse manager into Hospital operations and new program/service development. Is responsible for ensuring that individualized nursing care is provided and that the plan of care is based on current standards of care including age related factors, physical status and the developmental needs of patients. Insures staff is competent to provide patient care through orientation and ongoing education. Is responsible to ensure nursing units are in compliance with standards for accreditation and state/federal regulations. Supports unit operations in the absence of the Nurse Manager, and/or the House Supervisor. Will assume rotation of coverage for House Supervisor shifts, both dayshift and nightshift as well as early/late assignments as needed and as assigned. Covers shifts as Staff Nurse when needed, including nights and weekends.
Minimum Qualification of Equivalents
Education:
Must be able to lift objects more than fifty pounds and assist with patient transfers (exceeding 200 pounds). Manual dexterity and coordination with the ability to perform moderately difficult manipulative skills such as positioning patients and performance of tasks requiring arm-hand steadiness. Able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time. Ability to remember task assignments for varying periods of time. Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with frequent interruptions and remember multiple tasks given to self and others over long periods of time.
This position requires the ability to receive detailed/technical information from a variety of sources, retain it and use it effectively in future decision making. The position also requires the ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, and visitors, and the ability to move about the hospital.

Education:
- Graduation from accredited School of Nursing with current, unrestricted licensure as RN by State of Tennessee. BSN preferred.
- Minimum of three years nursing experience, with a record of progressive leadership beyond staff levels. Nursing Management experience preferred.
- Previous experience in a physical rehabilitation setting in either a staff or management capacity preferred.
- Current, unrestricted Tennessee State RN licensure or licensure in a compact state.
- Current CPR certification.
- ACLS within six months of employment required.
- CRRN required when eligible for exam.
- Good interpersonal skills with strong team orientation
- Ability to organize thoughts and ideas into a cohesive ad logical sequence for written work and oral presentation.
- Strong fiscal skills and ability to effectively use management information to monitor budget expectations.
- Well rounded knowledge base within the field of rehabilitation nursing to enhance management decision making.
- Consistency and objectivity in dealing with supervisory and policy issues.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of initiative and creative problem solving.
- Ability to utilize computers for clinical and administrative functions.
- Able to identify opportunities to improve quality of patient care, implement a plan and monitor outcomes.
