Director of Accounting

SHR Talent is partnering with a growing, specialized financial services organization in Birmingham, AL in its search for a Director of Accounting. This organization provides outsourced accounting and advisory support to a portfolio of multi-unit operating businesses and is continuing to invest in building out its leadership team.

This role offers the opportunity to lead a high-performing, client-focused accounting team while working closely with operators and stakeholders across multiple business units. The Director of Accounting will play a key role in driving consistency, improving processes, and delivering timely, actionable financial insights in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a service-oriented model and bring experience managing multiple entities or clients simultaneously.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and develop a distributed accounting team supporting multiple operating entities
• Oversee full-cycle accounting, including weekly and monthly reporting deliverables
• Partner directly with stakeholders to provide financial visibility and operational insights
• Drive process improvements and establish scalable workflows across the accounting function
• Ensure accuracy and timeliness across high-volume transactional environments
• Implement structure, accountability, and performance metrics across the team
• Support ongoing system improvements and process automation initiatives

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 7 years of progressive accounting experience
• Prior experience in a client service, outsourced accounting, or multi-entity environment
• Experience leading teams, including remote or distributed teams
• Strong understanding of high-volume transactional accounting environments
• Experience working with ERP/accounting systems (Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, or similar preferred)
• Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with operators and business leaders
