What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Product Manager position at Shields Group Search?
Lead Product Manager, Platform - FINTECH
Location: New York, NY, Hybrid
Reports To: Head of Product Design
Department: Product
Employment Type: Full-Time
The Company
This company is building an open-architecture private banking solution for investment advisors and balance sheet providers, delivering sophisticated liquidity solutions to ultra-high-net-worth clients at scale.
Their platform empowers advisors and UHNW clients with seamless access to high-value credit, banking, and mortgage products, while enabling external lender partners to deliver services that meet the exacting standards of the UHNW segment. They are a growing team solving complex problems at the intersection of private banking, capital markets, and technology.
The Opportunity
This role encompasses ownership of the unified platform software layer, spanning three critical product surfaces: the Advisor Application, the Client Application, and Lender-Facing Tooling.
You will lead planning efforts surrounding AI-native solutions, with direct exposure to the CTO and Head of Advanced Computing for strategic guidance and execution. While first-party financial products are driven by the executive team, you will be accountable for the end-to-end user experience, workflow optimization, and interface design that synthesizes these products into a cohesive, best-in-class offering.
Reporting to the Head of Product Design, you will collaborate directly with a growing, high-performing, six-person engineering team. The company operates without intermediate layers, proxies, or project managers, ensuring direct, high-velocity collaboration between Product and Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn the inner workings of the platform, including the current state of all product surfaces, both internal and external.
- Lead the development and implementation of integrated advisor and client workflows, establishing a singular, unified private banking experience across the platform.
- Elevate the lender tooling surface to ensure external partners achieve operational efficiency, speed, and quality parity with internal teams.
- Institute and manage a disciplined, data-informed sprint cadence, including planning, refinement, and review, designed for high-velocity execution in a demanding market environment.
- Define and uphold rigorous standards for product requirement documents and ticketing, ensuring engineering, design, and DevOps receive unambiguous, actionable direction for every sprint.
- Establish and manage direct access to clients for product discovery, collaborating closely with the Head of Go to Market. Demonstrate an inquisitive approach, prioritizing asking insightful questions over making assertions, to drive value through detailed and specific insights that inform how the product should be built.
- Author design briefs to kick off the scoping effort around new initiatives and projects, partnering closely with the Head of Product Design from the earliest stages of the work.
- Serve as the critical link between executive leadership, design, and engineering, strategically translating complex financial products into intuitive and valuable software solutions.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of progressive product management experience, including a senior individual contributor role at a successful bank, fintech, or growth-stage software company.
- Expert-level written and verbal communication skills, essential for communicating complex strategy and requirements.
- Demonstrated fluency in outcomes-based product development and quantitative decision-making.
- Proven ability to deconstruct complex, ambiguous business objectives into clear, data-defensible sprint plans, effectively communicating trade-offs to technical and executive stakeholders.
- Exceptional track record of authoring precise and actionable product requirement documents that facilitate efficient engineering execution.
- Domain expertise within financial services, including fintech, wealth management, banking, lending, or adjacent capital markets.
- High operational and interpersonal intelligence. Ability to deliver challenging product updates to high-value partners, including advisors, lenders, and internal constituents, while preserving the relationship. Adeptness at resolving team disagreements to maintain project momentum.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with sophisticated financial products such as private banking platforms, wealth management systems, credit risk solutions, loan origination software, or mortgage origination.
- Proven success delivering platforms to highly demanding and professional end-users, such as Financial Advisors, RIAs, Private Bankers, Investment Bankers, Brokers, and Portfolio Managers.
- Experience collaborating with design-forward leadership, demonstrating a high bar for product craft and user experience excellence.
- Familiarity with securities-based lending, fund finance, commercial lending, residential mortgages, or private credit.
- MBA or advanced degree in business, finance, or a related field.
Culture & Operating Model
- The company maintains a lean, senior-level team structure with direct alignment across Engineering, Product, and Design leadership to eliminate friction.
- They prioritize clarity and substance, championing Plain English so documentation, product requirement documents, and tickets are transparent and easily digestible across all functions.
- They utilize a robust operational stack, including Linear and Notion, to enforce a defined, repeatable delivery playbook focused on verifiable execution, not intuition-based product management.
- The company is venture capital backed, with meaningful capital support from strategic investors and enterprise partners.
- This is a hybrid role based in New York, requiring meaningful in-person collaboration each week.
What They Offer
- Competitive base compensation, commensurate with experience.
- Meaningful equity participation in a high-growth private banking platform.
- Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Hybrid work environment with a collaborative, in-person culture in New York City.
- The opportunity to shape the product strategy of a company building critical infrastructure for the private banking industry.
- Direct exposure to senior leadership, the board, and high-profile banking and technology partners.
