Essential Duties As a Planning & Conservation Technician - Administrative Assistant, you'll work with residents, contractors, developers, local officials, and state agencies to support responsible land use, conservation initiatives, zoning administration, and environmental programs throughout the county. Assist the public with zoning, shoreland, floodplain, subdivision, and sanitary permitting questions. Review and process permit applications and maintain accurate records.
Support conservation, planning, and environmental programs through data management and mapping. Prepare reports, correspondence, meeting materials, and public communications. Assist with GIS mapping and spatial data management.
Participate in field inspections, site reviews, and ordinance compliance activities. Support financial, administrative, and customer-service functions within the department. Collaborate with landowners, contractors, consultants, and government partners to ensure compliance with county regulations.
Qualifications Associate degree in environmental studies, planning, geography, natural resources, GIS, or a related field. Two years of experience in planning, zoning, environmental services, natural resources, GIS, permitting, surveying, land records, or related work. Strong organizational, communication, and customer-service skills.
Ability to balance office responsibilities with occasional fieldwork. Interest in environmental protection, land-use planning, and public service. Valid Wisconsin Driver's License.
