Job Summary:
The Quality Technician supports the Quality Department by performing inspections, tests, and analyses to ensure that incoming materials, in-process products, and finished goods meet SEMCORP Manufacturing USA’s quality standards and customer requirements. This role plays a key part in maintaining compliance with internal procedures, ISO standards, and customer specifications while helping drive continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Inspection & Testing
- Perform visual, dimensional, and functional inspections on raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished products.
- Operate and maintain inspection and testing equipment such as micrometers, calipers, film thickness gauges, tensile testers, and optical instruments.
- Record and analyze inspection results to verify conformance with product specifications and quality standards.
- Identify, document, and segregate non-conforming materials or products according to established procedures.
2. Data Recording & Reporting
- Accurately record inspection and test data in quality control databases and ERP systems.
- Prepare inspection reports, nonconformance reports (NCRs), and data summaries for quality engineers and management.
- Assist in maintaining calibration records for measurement tools and inspection equipment.
3. Process Control
- Support production teams in monitoring key process parameters and quality checkpoints.
- Verify line setup and process conditions meet defined quality standards before production begins.
- Assist in performing first-article inspections (FAI) and line audits.
4. Nonconformance & Corrective Actions
- Support investigations of non-conforming products and assist in root cause analysis.
- Work with engineers and operators to implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Monitor effectiveness of corrective actions to prevent recurrence of quality issues.
5. Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all inspections and tests are conducted according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
- Follow company policies and procedures related to ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or other relevant standards.
- Maintain organized and traceable documentation for audits and customer requirements.
6. Continuous Improvement
- Participate in continuous improvement activities focused on product quality, inspection efficiency, and defect reduction.
- Provide feedback to production and engineering teams regarding recurring issues or potential improvements.
- Support training efforts related to quality procedures and standards.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or technical training in Quality, Manufacturing, or Engineering preferred.
Experience:
- 1-3 years of experience in quality inspection or testing within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in plastics, film, or battery component manufacturing is a plus.
Skills:
- Proficiency in using precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges, tensile testers).
- Basic understanding of quality control principles, statistical process control (SPC), and inspection sampling plans.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP or QMS systems (e.g., SAP, Minitab).
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Quality certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) or equivalent.
- Experience with ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 quality systems.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
Work Environment:
- Combination of manufacturing floor and lab environments.
- May require standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
- Must adhere to all plant safety, cleanliness, and PPE requirements.
