Payroll Specialist

Segrera Associates is actively recruiting for a Payroll Specialist with a well established non-profit organization located in Pinellas Park, FL. The Payroll Specialist is a high visibility position within the company and will report directly to the Director of Finance/Accounting. This is a great opportunity for someone who has worked for a non-profit company who has a versatile background and skillset and business acumen. You will be overseeing and leading their payroll department, processing bi-weekly payroll, submitting payroll reports and timely payments of payroll taxes.

This role will be fully on-site for the first 6 months, then will transition to 1-2 days WFH following 6 months if things go well. Please note: Candidates must be seated or located close to Tampa, FL.

Essential Job Functions:

• Payroll processing: Process regular and sometimes complex payroll cycles, including calculating wages, handling deductions, and distributing paychecks or direct deposits.
• Record maintenance: Accurately maintain and update employee and payroll records in the accounting or payroll system, including new hires, terminations, and changes to personal or pay information.
• Compliance and tax: Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local labor laws and tax regulations. This includes processing and filing payroll taxes, handling involuntary deductions like garnishments, and responding to tax notices.
• Auditing and reporting: Conduct regular payroll audits to check for accuracy and compliance. Prepare and submit reports for management and external auditors, such as monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports.
• Employee support: Serve as a point of contact for employees to answer questions and resolve discrepancies related to their paychecks, benefits, and deductions.

Education & Experience Required:

• ADP experience - preferred
• Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree with 3 years of relevant experience preferred
• Candidates without a degree must have a high school diploma and a minimum of 5 years of payroll experience
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
