Job Overview:
Search Solution Group is seeking a Leave of Absence Supervisor on behalf of our client, a railcar pooling company. This role is responsible for overseeing the administration of employee leave programs across both union and non-union populations, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and collective bargaining agreements. The Supervisor serves as a key resource for complex leave matters, partnering with HR, Labor Relations, and external vendors to deliver a seamless and compliant leave experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee end-to-end administration of leave programs including FMLA, short-term disability, workers’ compensation, parental leave, and supplemental sickness
- Coordinate with third-party administrators, and internal systems to ensure accurate and timely leave processing
- Monitor and audit leave records to ensure compliance with federal, state, and company requirements
- Interpret and apply collective bargaining agreements related to leave policies and return-to-work procedures
- Serve as an escalation point for employees and managers on complex leave issues, documentation, and timelines
- Partner with Labor Relations to resolve leave-related concerns and ensure contractual compliance
- Prepare and analyze reports on leave trends, utilization, and compliance risks for HR leadership
- Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and internal controls
- Provide guidance, coaching, and oversight to leave administration staff as needed
Requirements include:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
Experience:
- 5 years of experience in leave administration or HR operations
- Experience supporting unionized employee populations preferred
Skills:
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with high attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and HRIS systems (Oracle HCM preferred)
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills
Certifications:
- Relevant HR certifications (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP) are a plus but not required
Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of FMLA, ADA, workers’ compensation, and disability programs
- Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and union environments
- Understanding of leave compliance regulations and reporting requirements
- Experience with Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) processes is a plus
