Position Summary
The System Administrator supports the firm’s technology infrastructure in a Microsoft-based environment. Working under the direction of the Vice President of Information Technology, this role is responsible for administering and maintaining systems such as VMware, Horizon VDI, Intune, and Active Directory, while also providing hands-on help desk support, provisioning new users, and managing hardware. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, resourceful, and capable of balancing day-to-day support needs with proactive system administration and maintenance tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide first-level system administration and technical support for end-users via phone, email, and remote tools.
- Respond to help desk tickets, troubleshoot incidents, and escalate as needed to senior IT staff.
- Administer and maintain Microsoft technologies, including Windows Server, Windows OS, and Microsoft 365 applications.
- Support and maintain VMware virtual environments, including provisioning virtual machines and monitoring performance.
- Manage and troubleshoot Horizon VDI environments, including user profile issues and virtual desktop performance.
- Use Intune to deploy, configure, and update software, apply security patches, and manage devices.
- Perform new user provisioning, including account setup in Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and other firm applications.
- Provide hardware support, including installation, imaging, troubleshooting, and repairs for desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals.
- Assist with user account administration, including password resets, group memberships, and multifactor authentication.
- Perform routine system monitoring, backups, and performance tuning to ensure system availability and efficiency.
- Troubleshoot network connectivity issues and assist with the configuration of switches, routers, and firewalls under senior staff guidance.
- Maintain accurate hardware and software inventories and update asset management records.
- Assist in implementing IT security best practices, including vulnerability remediation and endpoint protection measures.
- Collaborate with other IT team members to meet project deadlines and support technology initiatives.
- Document processes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps for future reference.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- 2–3 years of IT support or system administration experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Hands-on experience with VMware and Horizon VDI environments.
- Experience with Intune for software deployment, device management, and patching.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft technologies, including Windows OS, Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange Online, and Microsoft 365 applications.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and firewall basics).
- Excellent troubleshooting skills for both hardware and software issues.
- Strong customer service orientation with the ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and written communication skills.
- Ability to be detail-oriented, organized, and adaptable.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
