Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Director of Finance for a mission-driven affordable housing organization. This is an onsite opportunity located in Missoula, Montana.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Director of Finance serves as the senior financial leader for a respected affordable housing organization dedicated to expanding access to quality housing and community resources. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position oversees financial operations, strategic planning, compliance, budgeting, and reporting while supporting the organization's long-term sustainability and growth. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cash flow management
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, grant, and regulatory requirements, including housing-related funding programs
- Provide strategic financial guidance to executive leadership and support organizational decision-making
- Oversee audits, financial controls, risk management practices, and internal accounting processes
- Manage relationships with external auditors, financial partners, and regulatory agencies
- Supervise and develop finance staff while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience leading finance and accounting operations within nonprofit, government, housing, affordable housing, HUD-funded, or similarly regulated environments
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, audits, compliance, and internal controls
- Demonstrated ability to provide strategic financial leadership and partner effectively with executive teams and boards
- Experience managing complex funding sources, grants, public funds, or regulated financial programs
- Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This position offers an annual salary of $115,000-$128,000, depending on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes healthcare coverage, paid time off, holidays, and additional employer-sponsored benefits. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
