Environment, Health and Safety Manager

SAVI EHS
Virginia, VA Full Time
POSTED ON 8/1/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/30/2026

On-Call Construction Safety Professional – 1099 Network

Primary Location: Virginia

Engagement Type: Independent Contractor (1099)

Schedule: Intermittent, project-based, and as-needed

Compensation: Varies based on assignment, location, schedule, qualifications, and experience

Opportunity Overview

SAVI EHS is developing a network of highly experienced construction safety professionals who are available to provide temporary jobsite coverage throughout Virginia.

These assignments will primarily support clients when their regular safety professional is unavailable due to scheduled time off, illness, training, project transitions, or other short-term coverage needs. Assignments may range from a single shift to several days or weeks, depending on the project.

This opportunity is particularly well-suited for semi-retired construction safety professionals who want to remain active in the industry, apply their experience, and support project teams without committing to a traditional full-time schedule.

Potential Responsibilities

Depending on the assignment, responsibilities may include:

  • Providing temporary safety coverage for active construction projects
  • Conducting jobsite safety inspections and identifying potential hazards
  • Working with project leadership to address safety concerns and implement corrective actions
  • Reviewing pre-task plans, job hazard analyses, and other project safety documentation
  • Participating in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee orientations
  • Monitoring contractor and subcontractor compliance with project safety requirements
  • Supporting incident response, documentation, and preliminary investigations
  • Communicating site observations, concerns, and recommendations to SAVI EHS and client leadership
  • Providing an experienced, professional, and dependable safety presence throughout the assignment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Semi-retired construction safety professional seeking flexible, intermittent assignments
  • Ten or more years of dedicated construction safety experience
  • Extensive experience independently overseeing safety activities on active construction projects
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and industry best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to identify hazards, make sound field-level decisions, and communicate effectively with project leadership and craft personnel
  • Current Board of Certified Safety Professionals certification is strongly preferred, particularly CSP, ASP, or CHST
  • A BCSP certification may be required for certain client assignments
  • Additional project-specific certifications or credentials may be required based on the client, location, or scope of work
  • An established and active LLC is required
  • Ability to provide current certification and business documentation and complete client-specific onboarding requirements
  • Dependable transportation and the ability to travel within an assigned service area in Virginia
  • Willingness to accept short-term, intermittent, or emergency coverage assignments

Contractor Expectations

Selected professionals will operate as independent contractors through their established LLC and may be contacted when an assignment becomes available within their geographic area. Joining the network does not guarantee a minimum number of hours or assignments.

Contractors may accept or decline opportunities based on their availability. Eligibility for individual assignments will depend on experience, certifications, location, availability, and the ability to meet client-specific requirements.

Contractors will be expected to maintain an active LLC, all required credentials, applicable insurance coverage, and any documentation necessary for onboarding before beginning an assignment.
