Position Overview
SAVI EHS is seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to support a large-scale pharmaceutical construction project in Durham, North Carolina.
This position will work closely with project leadership, trade partners, and client representatives to oversee site-wide safety compliance and drive a proactive safety culture throughout all phases of construction. Candidates with previous pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, cleanroom, or highly regulated manufacturing construction experience are strongly preferred.
The ideal candidate will have a strong construction safety background, experience managing multiple subcontractors, and the ability to support a fast-paced project while maintaining the highest safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee Environmental, Health, and Safety compliance for all construction activities
- Conduct documented daily site inspections, audits, and safety observations
- Review and participate in Daily Hazard Analyses (DHAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Pre-Task Plans (PTPs)
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with OSHA regulations, client requirements, and site-specific safety plans
- Lead incident and near-miss investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
- Support high-risk operations including crane activities, rigging, excavation, fall protection, confined space entry, and electrical work
- Deliver site-specific safety orientations, toolbox talks, and safety training
- Verify worker qualifications, certifications, and training requirements
- Track and analyze leading and lagging safety indicators
- Partner with project leadership to maintain an injury-free workplace and strong safety culture
- Serve as a liaison between the client, project team, and trade partner safety representatives
Minimum Qualifications
- 5 years of construction EHS experience
- Previous pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, semiconductor, or highly regulated manufacturing construction experience strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA 1926 Construction Standards
- Experience supporting large commercial, industrial, or mission-critical projects
- OSHA 30 required
- OSHA 510 preferred
- OSHA 500 preferred
- CHST, STSC, ASP, CSP, or other BCSP certification preferred
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital safety management platforms
