Your role with us
As a pharmacy technician at Salem Health, you will support our pharmacy team by accurately preparing and delivering medications, managing inventory, and assisting patients and healthcare professionals with their pharmaceutical needs. You will work closely with pharmacists to ensure seamless patient care, maintain precise records and contribute to the efficient operation of our pharmacy services. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills and excellent communication abilities.
What you'll do
- Maintain proficiency in accurate medication filling, delivery, selling, and computer entries for patient profiles and history, working both independently and as part of a team.
- Answer phone calls promptly, handle multiple lines, use proper etiquette, and relay messages accurately and timely; Organize and prioritize workload to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist in training new staff; keep current with changes and learn new procedures promptly; Participate in assigned quality‑assurance activities to uphold department standards.
- Conduct out‑date checks of all medications across pharmacy areas; keep inventory at adequate levels using lean processes.
- Greet patients and providers in person or by phone, answer questions, refer inquiries to the pharmacist.
- Monitor pharmacy inventory, anticipate medication needs, place and expedite orders, verify receipts, remove outdated drugs.
- Uphold a safe and clean pharmacy environment by following regulations and infection‑control policies.
- Prepare medications for pharmacist dispensing by reading orders, entering data, generating labels, calculating quantities, counting/measuring, assembling discharge orders, and coordinating counseling.
- Ensure medication availability by delivering to patients or departments and processing claims, recording charges, coordinating benefits with payers.
- Preserve records by filing physicians’ orders and prescriptions; generate reports by summarizing information; Keep patient demographic information accurate through interviews, EMR, or other sources.
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- State of Oregon pharmacy technician licensure.
- National pharmacy technician certification required through the NHA (National Healthcareer Association) or PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) within one year from date of hire.
Additional information
- The role involves frequent standing, walking and moving throughout the work area; occasional sitting; regularly lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds; occasional pushing or pulling of loads; and periodic bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling and climbing stairs or ladders.
