What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet Driver position at Safety Test & Equipment Co Inc?
The Safety Test CDL-A Driver is responsible for accurate, on-time deliveries to and from customers and pickups from vendors. Our drivers
represent the company in a highly professional, safe, and cost-effective manner that complies with DOT and all applicable regulations.
New to the road? This is an entry-level friendly position. We welcome recent CDL school graduates — no prior
commercial driving experience is required, although preferred. If you hold your Class A CDL and bring a strong safety mindset
and a great attitude, we want to hear from you.
Duties & Responsibilities
Duties may vary depending on the needs of the business:
- Partner with the sales team and leadership to provide availability for pickups and deliveries using an online calendar.
- Prepare a box truck or gooseneck & 5th-wheel style trailer for operation by assisting with and overseeing loading, securing items, and
verifying the accuracy of shipping papers. - Inspect truck tires, lights, brakes, fluids, and more to ensure safe, cost-effective performance with preventive maintenance in mind.
- Deliver orders via the most effective route so complete orders arrive within established timeframes and meet customer needs.
- Unload items at customer locations as needed.
- Maintain communication with the company during deliveries to receive any updated instructions.
- Document delivery, accuracy, and customer receipt of orders per company directives, and report any discrepancies.
- Increase customer satisfaction by collecting feedback, resolving complaints per company policy, and relaying information back to the
company. - Maintain and monitor truck maintenance and driving-record requirements; keep required safety, security, and quality documents current.
- Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment as required (training provided).
- Maintain proficiency in computerized systems and other technologies as required.
- Follow all company policies and procedures, and perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need
Required
- Valid Class-A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) — or
completion of CDL school with license pending. - High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to pass new-hire and random drug screening per DOT
requirements. - Ability to pass a DOT physical.
- A safe driving record free of major violations.
- Comfortable driving safely at night.
- Willingness to travel and work assigned routes, adapting to
schedule changes.
A Plus (Not Required)
- Familiarity with utility equipment, PPE, and tools.
- Electronic Logging Device (ELD) experience.
- Forklift, pallet jack, or hand-truck experience.
- Customer-service experience.
Physical
- Some heavy lifting required.
- Available early mornings, days, overnights, and weekends
depending on business needs.
Travel & Work Environment
- Regional routes from TX to LA, AR, OK, KS, CO, NM, and MS — with the possibility of additional states in the future or during natural-disaster response situations.
- Work environment includes remote/on-the-road travel and warehouse settings.
- Hours vary with business needs; typically Monday–Friday with some overnights.
