S & S Packaging, a growing second-generation family-owned business with 37 years of experience, is seeking FULL-TIME MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN (FIRST SHIFT) to work at Cranesville location.

Job Summary:

Our maintenance person’s purpose is to keep our operations running safely, efficiently and smoothly. Responsibilities include:

· Maintenance of equipment, machinery, buildings and grounds.

· Experience with high voltage electricity, control wiring, programming, and relay logic

· Experience with design and fabrication

· General experience in welding, industrial electricity, electronics, plumbing, and carpentry is required.

· The ideal candidate will possess a creative, problem-solving ability to be able to troubleshoot and repair existing and potential problems.

· Knowledge of LOTO and OSHA safety rules

· The maintenance tech will work with:

o Single phase electricity (120V 240V)

o Three phase electricity (240V 480V)

o 500VDC electricity

o Pneumatic pressure

o Hydraulic pressure

o Mechanical components

o Steam pressure

o Chemicals

o Driving forklifts

· Reliability, communication skills, pride and ability to work as an individual as well as part of a team are also desired traits.

· The Maintenance Technician reports to the Production Manager

· Willing to work overtime when necessary

Minimum qualifications/education and/or training:

  • High school/GED.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Forklift training & certification
  • At least three to five (3-5) years experience in an industrial maintenance environment
  • Ability to perform general maintenance jobs (welding, torching, fabricating, carpentry, plumbing, wiring, etc.)

Credentials and/or skills and abilities:

· Oral and written communication skills (meetings & maintenance logs).

· Mechanical skills.

· Demonstrate thinking and creative ability

· Be proactive about solving problems, perform preventative maintenance

· Use and be familiar with tape measure, hand truck and general maintenance tools & equipment.

· Has basic knowledge in two or more specific trades such as machinist, carpentry, pipefitting, electrical or mechanical

· Mechanical aptitude

· Safety conscious

· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

· Eagerness to learn

· Ability to jump from one task to another rapidly, repeatedly and without warning.

· Not afraid to get dirty

· Attention to detail

· Computer experience is beneficial

Essential Functions:

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Receives and processes maintenance request forms and maintains preventive maintenance schedules for projects
  • Records and maintains repair and machine maintenance information.
  • Responsible for care and use of supplies, equipment, tools & parts, etc.
  • Obtains parts and materials to support efficient execution of scheduled preventive maintenance and work orders.
  • Main purpose is to keep us running as efficiently as possible and to help make jobs safer and easier for employees.
  • Applies lubricants, oils, or other material to machines, machine parts, or other equipment, according to specified procedures.
  • Performs mechanical, electrical, and plumbing repairs
  • Building and grounds: Snow removal, ice and other weather-related procedures.
  • Follows and promotes continuous improvement of company performance, and of safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
  • Works well with others and displays a positive team effort.

Marginal Functions:

  • Takes periodic inventory counts of spare equipment, parts, and tools; creates inventory variance and reorder reports for management.
  • Suggests improvements to maintenance programs & machinery.
  • Participates in shop cleanliness and maintenance procedures.
  • Assists in other areas and operates other machines when necessary.
  • May make pickups/ deliveries of parts & goods

Physical Requirements:

Employees in this position must have the ability to:

· Stand and walk for extended periods of time.

· Use hands to finger, touch or operate machinery and handle parts.

· Climb or maintain his/her balance intermittently.

· Hear and understand speech at normal levels.

· Speak so that other may understand at normal levels.

· Stand, walk, bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull and move, lift and/or carry more than 50 pounds to waist height for approximately ten (10) feet.

· Lift more than 100 pounds with assistance for a short distance.

Work Environment:

· Employees in this position will be required to work in an indoor and outdoor environment.

· Loud to very loud noise level for the majority of the time. Loud noise is consistent.

· Will work near moving mechanical parts. May work in high, precarious places. Will work near fumes or airborne particles.

· Employee must wear safety glasses and earplugs while operating certain machinery.
