Overview
Performs daily accounting activities in accordance with generally accepted accounting procedures, including maintenance of the general ledger and preparation of accounting statements and financial reports. Familiarity with general accounting concepts, practices, and procedures is required.
Job Summary
Works on a team of administrators (with some supervisory duties similar to a low senior accountant in public accounting) responsible for providing accounting, administration, financial reporting, regulatory reporting, and investor servicing to investment companies and advisers, including hedge funds, private equity funds, CLOs, and other alternative investment vehicles.
Serves as a trusted advisor to clients by assessing changing business needs and strategies while providing expertise, tools, and information to support investment growth. Acts as the escalation point for assigned clients, directing issue resolution and process improvements to meet client needs. Proactively identifies risk-related issues through qualitative and quantitative analysis, anticipates obstacles, and implements mitigating solutions.
Reviews accounting records and financial statements for audit and tax purposes, documents accounting treatment for unusual investment types, and oversees complex expense allocations, incentive fee calculations, and reconciliation items.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support a team of fund administrators responsible for accounting and investor servicing.
- Provide accounting, administration, financial reporting, and regulatory reporting services for alternative investment funds.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for client issues and oversee issue resolution.
- Assess client needs and recommend operational improvements and strategic solutions.
- Review accounting records, financial statements, and supporting documentation for audit and tax reviews.
- Establish accounting principles for complex investment types.
- Process and review complex expense allocations, incentive fee calculations, and reconciliations.
- Identify operational and risk-related issues and implement appropriate controls and solutions.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 2–4 years of experience in the alternative investments industry at a fund, fund administrator, or Big Four/Mid-size public accounting firm performing fund audits.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Basic knowledge of Advent applications preferred.
- Knowledge of the Confluence financial reporting platform preferred.
- General understanding of portfolio accounting and the investment management industry.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and team collaboration skills.
- CPA preferred.
