The Heavy Equipment Operator is a versatile field role responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various equipment (Excavators, Loaders, Skid Steers) to support pipeline production. This role is expected to lead production from the cab but is also required and must be willing to perform Pipe Laborer and Pipe Layer duties as needed to maintain the crew’s momentum.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate varying sized excavators, loaders, and skid steers for trenching, backfilling, and material staging.
- Proactively identify and protect existing underground utilities – maintain constant communication with ground spotters and identifying underground hazards.
- Willingly exit the cab to assist the crew with pipe laying, shoveling, shoring setup, or site cleanup whenever necessary to meet daily targets.
- Perform daily inspections and routine maintenance of assigned equipment – maintain accurate equipment logs and report mechanical issues.
- Execute precision lifts for large-diameter pipe and shoring systems.
- Adhere to all OSHA and company standards for equipment operation and trench safety.
- Experience operating multiple types and sizes of heavy equipment in a utility, pipeline, or heavy civil construction environment.
- Proven ability to dig around existing utilities, within complex shoring systems (slide rails/trench boxes), and interpret civil utility profiles.
- A team-oriented mindset with a verified willingness to perform manual labor alongside the crew.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in various weather conditions and confined spaces.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening/physical.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to work out of town as required by project schedules.
