The Crawler Crane Operator is a highly specialized technical role responsible for the operation of lattice-boom and/or telescopic-boom crawler cranes in heavy civil and water/wastewater construction environments. This position is critical for the execution of high-capacity lifts, including the placement of large-scale process equipment, structural steel, and deep-trench shoring systems.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Execute complex lifts with crawler-mounted cranes, managing load movements across a varying range while strictly adhering to machine load charts and safety limits.
- Evaluate ground bearing capacities and site topography to ensure proper crane positioning and stability, especially when operating on mats or near excavations.
- Review lift plans and inspect all rigging hardware – including slings, spreader bars, and shackles – to verify compliance with weight requirements and safety factors.
- Maintain constant, clear communication with signal persons and ground crews via radio or hand signals.
- Perform daily pre-operational inspections and routine maintenance.
- Adhere to OSHA and site-specific safety protocols.
- Proven experience in crawler crane operation within a heavy civil, industrial, or utility construction environment.
- Must hold a current NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) certification for Lattice Boom Crawler (LBC) or Telescopic Boom Crawler (TBC) cranes.
- Expert command of load charts, multi-part line configurations, and soil stability requirements.
- OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction certification; Rigging and Signaling certifications.
- Authorization to work in the US and the ability to pass pre-employment drug screening/physical.
