Flight Software Engineer - Impulse Space
Up to $280k Pre-IPO Stock Options Outstanding Benefits
Relocation Assistance Available
Are you an Embedded Software or Flight Software Engineer who enjoys solving complex real-time software challenges? Do you want to develop the software that directly controls spacecraft throughout launch preparation, mission execution and on-orbit operations? Are you looking for the opportunity to own mission-critical software from initial design through integration, testing and flight? If so, this opportunity could be the perfect next step in your career.
Impulse Space is developing the next generation of in-space transportation vehicles, enabling missions across Low Earth Orbit, GEO, lunar space and beyond. Working in small, highly collaborative engineering teams, you'll develop deterministic, real-time flight software that directly powers spacecraft performing active missions. Engineers are given genuine ownership from architecture through deployment, working alongside world-class Avionics, GNC and Propulsion engineers to rapidly turn ideas into flight-ready systems.
The Flight Software Engineer will design, develop and integrate embedded flight software, owning critical software services across the complete spacecraft software lifecycle.
As the Flight Software Engineer your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and developing real-time embedded C flight software for spacecraft flight computers
- Implementing software for Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC), command & telemetry, propulsion control, mission sequencing, autonomy and fault management
- Developing deterministic software capable of meeting hard real-time performance requirements in demanding space environments
- Supporting software verification, integration, environmental testing, launch preparation and live mission operations
- Collaborating closely with Avionics, GNC, Propulsion and RF Engineering teams to deliver reliable, flight-ready software
- Participating in code reviews while maintaining high standards for software quality, reliability and maintainability
As the Flight Software Engineer you will bring:
- Strong C development experience within embedded or real-time systems
- Experience developing software for embedded Linux and/or RTOS environments
- A solid understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, networking and software engineering fundamentals
- Experience developing software for safety-critical or mission-critical systems such as spacecraft, launch vehicles, autonomous vehicles, robotics, UAVs or similar complex platforms
- Experience with software verification, testing, version control and modern software development practices
- Spacecraft flight software, NASA cFS or mission operations experience would be highly advantageous
The Flight Software Engineer will become a key contributor to the software that directly flies Impulse Space's spacecraft, taking ownership of mission-critical functionality from initial concept through successful on-orbit operations. Alongside competitive compensation, valuable pre-IPO stock options and comprehensive relocation support, this role offers exceptional technical ownership, exposure to cutting-edge spacecraft development and the opportunity to work alongside some of the industry's leading engineers as Impulse continues to scale at an extraordinary pace.
All successful applicants will be contacted within two working days.
