What are the responsibilities and job description for the Science YouTube Content Scriptwriter/Researcher position at Roster?

Up and Atom, a YouTube channel dedicated to making complex maths and physics accessible and exciting for general audiences, is looking for a Scriptwriter & Researcher to help bring their next wave of videos to life! We're helping them fill this position.
If you have a strong science or maths background and a passion for turning complex ideas into compelling stories, this is the role for you.
Requirements:
- You have a strong science or maths background — PhD level is ideal
- You can read and understand academic papers and translate complex ideas for a non-expert audience
- You think visually about explanations, not just verbally — you understand how ideas should be shown, not just said
- You have a strong sense of narrative, structure, and viewer engagement
- You're comfortable being edited heavily, iterating quickly, and taking feedback in stride
- You write in a conversational, sharp, video-native style — not academic or essay format
- Some familiarity with YouTube storytelling and audience retention is a plus
- Experience with science communication, whether on YouTube, in writing, or elsewhere, is highly preferred
Responsibilities:
- Research topics using academic papers, books, articles, and other sources
- Help identify the strongest hook, angle, or framing for each video
- Write full script drafts and revise based on feedback
- Develop storyboard-level thinking — identifying key visuals that bring ideas to life on screen
- Collaborate closely with Jade throughout the entire process, from topic selection to finished script
- Balance scientific accuracy with clarity and pacing for a broad audience
- Build curiosity and momentum within each video's narrative structure
