We are looking for a meticulous and experienced Staff Accountant to join a dynamic team in the construction industry located in Suffolk, VA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general ledger accounting, accounts payable, account reconciliations, and job costing. 


Key Responsibilities:

Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.

Process and manage accounts payable, including vendor invoices, payment runs, and expense reports.

Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy.

Assist with job costing, tracking project expenses and comparing actuals to budgets.

Support month-end and year-end close processes.

Prepare and analyze financial reports related to construction projects.

Collaborate with project managers to ensure proper allocation of costs and timely reporting.

Assist with audits and provide documentation as needed.

Maintain organized records and documentation for all accounting activities.

Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.


Qualifications:

3 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.

Strong understanding of GL, AP, reconciliations, and job costing.

Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, QuickBooks, Viewpoint, or similar).

Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial reporting tools.

Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounts payable or a related field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions such as pivot tables and formulas.
• Strong knowledge of Sage accounting software for financial tracking and reporting.
• Familiarity with job costing processes and expense allocation.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with vendors and internal teams.
• Solid understanding of accounts payable procedures and compliance requirements.
• Capability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
