SUMMARY: To order, stock merchandise, provide information and suggestions on products, and provide excellent customer service.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet all customers and ask if they need assistance.
  • In depth knowledge of products and their location in the department; beer, wine and liquor.
  • Be knowledgeable of all company programs/ clubs.
  • Prepare back room for receipt of merchandise, assist in unloading of product from delivery vehicles and sort cases according to aisles or pallet for stocking.
  • Face shelves, properly rotate items.
  • Assist in ordering as requested by the manager.
  • Receive, process, and sort incoming stock deliveries safely.
  • Be forklift certified and able to unload trucks without supervision.
  • Transport items to the sales floor after sorting to ensure the sufficient quantity has been delivered.
  • Ensure that any excess goods are placed in the storage room. Always be aware of what is in the storage room.
  • Stock shelves in areas assigned during shift
  • Ensure that no damaged or expired items are on store shelves
  • Assist in creation of displays
  • Communicate with other employees to ensure top-quality work
  • Maintain an orderly and safe workplace for staff and customers
  • Use proper safety procedures when lifting, opening items, identifying hazards, etc.
  • Ensure any tags or signs moved during stocking are placed back in the proper spot.
  • Be able to substitute in other positions for absent coworkers.
  • Ensure the safety of self, customers and teammates by understanding and practicing store safety rules and notifying a manager, supervisor, lead of any potential hazards immediately.
  • To perform any other legal and ethical tasks as requested by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Must be 18 or older
  • Must be able to operate a forklift, pallet jack, and baler. (training and certification will be provided)
  • Basic mathematical ability (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and ability to count.
  • Able to give/receive complex verbal instructions/descriptions to/from supervisors/teammates concerning store/department policy/procedures and use of equipment.
  • Able to pass background checks and drug/alcohol screens.
  • The ability to read and write English. Able to read instructions, merchandise labels, printed-paper, and forms.
  • Able to lift a maximum of 60 pounds.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be reliable, flexible and honest.
  • Stable work history
  • Make judgements concerning, but not limited to, the quality of items, extent of unsellable product damage, placement of merchandise on the shelves/display, and case opening procedures.

TASKS OF THE JOB -- This job generally includes:

  • Mobility:
  • Able to move cases from truck/pallet to backroom/to sales floor for stocking 100 yards and sometimes greater
  • Able to move excess cardboard/packing material and cases/damaged product from the sales floor to overhead storage or backroom storage.
  • Able to move to the backroom of the store for supplies/product/maintenance equipment and return
  • Stand/Walk on tile or concrete for long periods of time.
  • With assistance, I must be able to move and stack empty pallets from floor to 78 inches overhead. Certified forklift operators will stack empty pallets above 78 inches
  • Without assistance, move a maximum of 40 lbs from 6 inches to 72 inches onto the overhead/backroom storage rack. Shelving higher than 72 inches may be used for storage of cereal and paper product cases only (not to exceed 25 pounds per case)
  • Move cardboard into a baler, approximately 4 feet. (Must be 18 years or older to move cardboard into a baler.) Operate baler according to procedures.

  • Pick up/ move/sort/open/”face/front” (a/an) case/item/trash/from floor/shelf/ground/pallet/rack storage
  • Use maintenance and product transportation equipment safely
  • Attain merchandise/cases on top of overhead/backroom storage/frozen storage shelves/rack, up to 84 inches from the floor with the use of proper equipment and assistance.
  • Attain merchandise/cases on the top of grocery overhead/backroom storage/frozen storage shelves/rack up to 84 inches from the floor with the use of proper equipment and assistance.
  • Attain merchandise on stocking carts or pallets. Ensure back stock is taken to the floor as needed in a timely fashion. Stock shelves from displays. Relocated product not in proper locations
  • Clean shelves/floor area including, but not limited to, cardboard, packaging and debris.
  • Clean up spills and hazards placing proper signage to indicate a hazard for coworkers/customers
  • Place signs, labels, and banners in place. Replace signs/shelf tags when missing.
  • Handle case cutter/utility knife safely .
  • Grasp and handle wet/cold/hot/crushable/metal/paper/plastic/glass store products
  • Manipulate maintenance equipment handles/grasps/knobs
  • Ability to be mobile while cleaning, cutting/opening, sorting, stocking, load/unloading, moving/removing merchandise, stocking merchandise, and work area.
  • Ability to move heavy stocking carts, pallet jacks with heavy product in excess of 500 pounds and maintenance equipment approximately 200 yards
  • Move to the top of ladders, cases, shelving and stairs up to 15 feet in height
  • Balance cases of product on overhead rack
  • Stock shelves 8 inches from the floor to 66 inches in height
  • Recognize cases, case cutter edge, shelf location, product size/description, customers, shelf tags, labels on products, stocking carts, packaging materials, debris on floor, aisle markers, and signs.
  • Perceive color difference on product labels.
  • Recognize cleaning/maintenance equipment, pallet jacks, forklifts and baler controls.
  • Communicate and respond to teammates' questions/needs and provide appropriate accurate responses or enlist the assistance of others as needed.
  • Respond to and use intercom and 2 way radio
  • Recognize the sound of baler/pallet jack/forklift cleaning equipment and box cutter operation
  • Read case label/strips, signs, tags, shelf signs, number snad aisle markers
  • Read equimplet and chemical warning labels
  • Comply with the Red X handbook and all Red X policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by a supervisor, manager or any member of management.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Inside work with extreme variations in temperature, dust, humidity from back door/compressors/cooler/freezer.

SAFETY:

  • The teammate will not use drugs or alcohol on the job.
  • The teammate will not create a direct threat to the health and safety of others on the job and will comply with all known and posted safety rules and regulations and must successfully complete all required safety training.
  • Successfully completes training and receives certification on HazMat and MSDS.
