What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inventory Specialist - Crime Lab position at Kansas City Missouri Police Department?
Receive and release a variety of evidence involved in criminal cases including, but not limited to weapons, narcotics and hazardous materials. Document all activity to maintain chain-of-custody within the computer-based property management system as well as the laboratory information management system.
Recall evidence upon request of division personnel. Accurately track the status of all evidence recalls until they arrive at the Crime Laboratory.
Assist outside agencies with evidence submissions to ensure accuracy and proper packaging.
Manage the storage of all incoming and outgoing evidence at the Crime Laboratory to include conducting evidence inventories and audits using inventory management software.
Display ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
Answer requests for information and/or service by email, telephone or at the counter.
Facilitate and coordinate the movement of evidence with Crime Laboratory members and customers.
Respond to the medical examiners office to recover evidence.
Respond to electronic inquiries from outside agency personnel and prosecutors relating to reports, notifications, trial dates, and additional laboratory analysis.
May have to testify in court regarding chain-of-custody procedures.
Maintain reliable and predictable attendance. Must have the ability to work flexible hours and/or overtime when element needs arise.
Perform other duties as required.
### **Requirements and Qualifications:**
High school diploma or equivalent
Must reside within 30 statute miles of Kansas City, Missouri city limits during employment
Selected applicants must submit to a Clerical Test (75% accuracy), Keystroke test (80% accuracy), CVSA, MMPI, post-offer physical examination and drug screen.
Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department members and customers.
Close attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
Required to submit a DNA standard for quality control purposes.
Must possess a valid Missouri drivers license.
#### **Physical, Cognitive, and Psychological Requirements:**
Must meet department-established physical, cognitive, and psychological health standards
Must be able to perform light lifting (up to 20 pounds) daily and heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) occasionally. Job may require extended periods of sedentary work along with periods of standing stationary work.
Exposure to hazardous materials and working conditions exist.
