Job Summary
Bring your classroom expertise into a residential summer camp and use it in a completely different context. Staff coaching, structured development sessions, family communication, and hands-on camper support are the core of this role—none of it is clinical, none of it is therapy. It is applied education in a community where the work shows up in real time.
Key Responsibilities
-
Fully engage in all pre-camp staff training and use bunk meetings with unit leaders and counselors to build a working understanding of each camper before they arrive
-
Prepare the counseling staff to recognize and respond to homesickness, peer conflict, anxiety, and behavioral patterns through scenario-based coaching and group practice
-
Join nightly unit meetings to observe group dynamics firsthand and coach staff in real time on social conflict management and bunk-level challenges
-
Facilitate three Lunch & Learn sessions per unit across the summer as part of the structured staff development calendar
-
Take ownership of family communication for camper care matters throughout the season; all parent contact goes through official camp platforms only
-
Personally reach out to every new camper’s family in the opening week; follow up after Health Center visits when the situation calls for it
-
Review Daily Camper Reports with attention; meet one-on-one with campers who would benefit from additional social-emotional check-ins
-
Surface mental health concerns to leadership before acting on them independently; work hand in hand with the Health Center to distinguish emotional from physical presentations
-
Attend Camper Care Team meetings three times a week and any extra sessions called by the Director of Camp Experience
-
Set a clear example of professional conduct throughout the season—your boundary awareness shapes how the whole care team operates
Minimum Requirements
-
Certified teacher with a minimum of 3 years working with children or adolescents in a professional setting
-
Documented experience helping young people build social, emotional, and behavioral competencies
-
Strong, professional communicator who handles both family and colleague interactions with consistency and care
-
Understands what professional boundaries look like in a residential, communal setting—and holds them without being reminded
-
Available from June 22 pre-camp training through the final day of the season on August 16, no gaps
-
Two professional references required; at least one must be a current or recent direct supervisor
Ideal Qualifications
-
Background working in a residential camp, school system, or youth-serving organization
-
Raises the game of the staff around them while staying out of the way of their growth process
-
Reads the room accurately and makes sound decisions when situations are messy or unclear
-
Someone who wants to be at camp—fully invested in the community, not just logging hours until August
