JOB SUMMARY:
The Test Engineer is a technical specialist who supports customers and internal teams through fastener application analysis, joint design recommendations, and laboratory testing. This role is responsible for day-to-day laboratory operations, performing torque-tension, ultrasonic, fatigue, and corrosion testing, and preparing detailed engineering reports for customer communication, PPAP submissions, and new product validation. The position serves as a key technical resource for OEM and Tier-1 applications, helping ensure robust joint performance through best-in-class testing, analysis, and documentation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Technical Application Engineering
- Understand customer application requirements, joint design parameters, and performance targets
- Provide fastener technical support, including product selection, torque specification guidance, joint analysis, and print reviews
- Support Sales Application Engineers during technical customer meetings, presentations, and engineering reviews
Laboratory Testing & Analysis
- Perform a full range of fastener tests, including: Torque–tension testing, Ultrasonic clamp load measurement, Fatigue and durability testing, salt spray and corrosion resistance testing
- Analyze and interpret test results, identify root causes, and recommend corrective or design actions
- Prepare clear, structured, and professional laboratory reports for internal and external customers
Laboratory Operations Management
- Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient laboratory environment
- Manage calibration schedules, equipment readiness, and preventive maintenance activities
- Develop, improve, and maintain testing procedures, documentation standards, and laboratory workflows
- Manage sample inventory and test scheduling
Customer & Cross-Functional Support
- Support customer visits, audits, and technical reviews related to laboratory capabilities and testing
- Assist internal engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams with feasibility reviews, PPAP readiness, and new product validation
- Participate in customer or plant-site troubleshooting activities requiring advanced testing or technical expertise
Market & Technology Awareness
- Stay current on fastener testing methods, material technologies, coatings, and emerging industry standards
- Provide internal feedback on market trends and customer requirements that impact product design or testing needs
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred
- 1–5 years of engineering, testing, or laboratory experience in automotive, fasteners, or mechanical components
- Strong understanding of mechanical testing, metallurgy fundamentals, torque–tension principles, and joint design
- Ability to produce clear, professional, data-driven technical reports
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and laboratory discipline
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Experience with ultrasonic measurement systems, fatigue testing equipment, or corrosion chambers preferred
- Ability to communicate technical findings effectively to customers and internal teams
- Willingness to travel occasionally to customer or manufacturing locations as required.
