About the Opportunity:
Relate Search has partnered with a global independent power producer (IPP) to identify a Director of Commercial Analytics to build and lead the U.S. commercial analytics function. This is a foundational, high-impact role responsible for developing the data infrastructure, quantitative modeling capabilities, and analytical tools that empower smarter trading, risk management, and asset optimization decisions across a rapidly expanding renewable and energy portfolio.
The Director will lead a growing team of quantitative analysts, partner closely with commercial, finance, and operations leaders, and serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership. This role is ideal for a hands-on, technically skilled leader who thrives in a fast-paced, data-driven environment shaping the future of energy markets.
What You’ll Do:
Lead & Build the Commercial Analytics Function
- Establish and grow the U.S. analytics team, including hiring, coaching, and developing quantitative talent.
- Create scalable analytics processes, governance frameworks, and best-in-class modeling standards.
- Define and enhance the long-term analytics strategy in alignment with commercial and business objectives.
Develop Data Infrastructure & Architecture
- Build and manage a robust data environment integrating market, asset, trading, and financial datasets.
- Implement automated data pipelines and storage solutions to support real-time decision-making.
- Ensure data consistency, quality, and accessibility across the commercial organization.
Lead Quantitative Modeling & Forecasting
- Develop advanced forecasting, pricing, risk, and optimization models for commercial decision-making.
- Support the structuring of commercial deals, PPAs, fuel strategies, and market bidding activities.
- Integrate and validate models within energy trading and risk management platforms.
Drive Analytics-Enabled Decision Making
- Deliver insight-driven recommendations to enhance trading, origination, and portfolio performance.
- Collaborate with front-, middle-, and back-office teams to embed analytics into core workflows.
- Build dashboards, reports, and tools to improve transparency and performance monitoring.
What We’re Looking For:
- 10 years in commercial analytics, quantitative modeling, or data architecture within energy, utilities, or commodity trading.
- Proven experience building, scaling, and leading technical or analytics teams.
- Strong understanding of U.S. power markets (e.g., ERCOT, PJM) and renewable energy technologies.
- Expert-level proficiency in Python, SQL, cloud platforms, data pipeline tools, and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Experience working with ETRM systems and integrating analytics into commercial environments.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in a quantitative, technical, or engineering field preferred.
