Rehabilitation Support Services, Inc. is seeking candidates to fill full time Residence Counselor positions to work in our Adolescent Community Residence (8 bed facility with 1 respite bed) for ages 12-18 years in Oneonta, NY. High energy fast paced fun environment.
40-hour work week, schedule includes one weekend shift
Candidate must work well in a positive, strength focused, high energy and rapidly changing environment. Must be flexible and a team player. Good writing skills are necessary for this position. Responsibilities include but are not limited to overall care and supervision of residents; daily notes related to progress, service plans, and goals; transportation. Position includes evening and weekend hours. Some on call hours required.
Requirements: High School diploma or GED, valid NYS driver's license and successful completion of Justice Center and New York State Office of Children and Families Statewide Central Register Database clearance.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residence Counselor to provide exceptional support and care to residents in a community-based living environment. As a Residence Counselor, you will be responsible for ensuring residents' safety, promoting independence, and fostering a positive, respectful atmosphere within the residence. Responsibilities
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility assistance.
- Monitor and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature to ensure health stability.
- Administer medications accurately following prescribed schedules and protocols while maintaining detailed documentation within electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to residents, encouraging social engagement and participation in activities.
- Support residents with memory care needs, including dementia and Alzheimer's disease, utilizing specialized techniques for behavior management.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping duties such as cleaning resident areas and common spaces.
- Assist with meal preparation, feeding assistance, and ensuring proper nutrition tailored to individual dietary requirements.
- Operate mobility aids such as Hoyer lifts safely to support residents with mobility challenges.
- Document care activities thoroughly and communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, families, and team members.
- Support residents’ participation in community outings or transportation needs when required.
Experience
- Prior experience in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home & community care settings is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medication administration procedures and vital signs monitoring.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia is preferred.
- Familiarity with EMR systems for documentation purposes is advantageous.
- Proven ability to manage personal care tasks such as assisting with ADLs in a respectful manner.
- Background in caregiving roles within retirement homes or group homes will be considered an asset.
- Long-term care experience that includes behavioral management strategies is beneficial.
- Valid driver’s license for transportation duties is preferred but not mandatory depending on the role’s scope.
