What are the responsibilities and job description for the AI / ML Specialist position at Refactor Talent?
We’re seeking to connect an AI Specialist with a leading organization in the public safety space on a contract basis. This role is hybrid and located in Michigan.
As an AI Specialist, you will join a collaborative team and apply your expertise in AI/ML, cloud platforms, and public safety data to modernize how law enforcement agencies search, analyze, and use critical information.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and deploy AI/ML solutions that enable natural-language querying of CLEMIS data for authorized users.
Collaborate with law enforcement stakeholders and technical teams to gather requirements and deliver AI-powered applications.
Extract and migrate data from on-premises Oracle and SQL Server databases to the AWS Cloud.
Transform, mask, and manage sensitive data in compliance with CJIS and PII standards.
Build scalable AI architectures using vector databases, RAG, and AWS Bedrock with models such as Claude or AWS Titan/Nova.
Support future expansion into predictive analytics using RMS data.
2–3 years of experience with public safety systems such as CAD, RMS, and FRMS.
Strong understanding of law enforcement datasets and their relationships (people, identifiers, incidents, offenses).
Proficiency in Python and R, with hands-on experience in AI/ML model development and deployment.
Experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, and data platforms such as Spark or Databricks.
Cloud experience with AWS (SageMaker, EC2, S3); Azure ML experience is a plus.
Familiarity with secure data handling, compliance, and production AI environments.
