Looking for a fulfilling role that makes a difference in the lives of patients? Our healthcare facility in Wrangell, AK is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with a current Alaska license for our Acute and Long-Term Care unit. As a CNA, you will provide basic nursing care to non-acute and/or acutely ill patients/residents while maintaining a safe and clean environment.

Position Complexities:

In this fast-paced job, you will be expected to react in a calm and functional manner and make sound judgments within the scope of duties when taking care of ill patients/residents and in the event of emergencies. You will need to be mentally prepared to deal with both acute and non-acute patients/residents and families on a steady basis, and the job requires lifting of non-ambulatory patients/residents on a regular interval. Additionally, you will need to maintain accountability for all actions taken and accept delegation from supervising Licensed Nurses (LN).

Accountabilities:

As a CNA, you will obtain nursing data through interviewing and observing patients/residents under an LN's direction and review, document observation findings that are consistent with other providers under an LN's supervision, and provide general nursing care for the adult and geriatric population, which may include but not limited to bed bath, oral hygiene, combing hair, backcare, dressing patients, application of appliances for heat and cold, etc. You will monitor and record vital signs and intake-output measurements, collect and transport specimens to correct departments, report abnormal findings to the LN, and perform other tasks and duties specific to unit specialty.

You will provide bedside care, which may include positioning patients/residents, lifting and turning patients/residents, assisting in the use of bedpan, urinal, or commode, answering call lights, making rounds to assigned patients/residents, ambulating patients/residents, transporting to and from various departments as required, assisting patients/residents with meals or feeds, and aiding in handling and the care of patients'/residents' belongings (including dentures, glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, prosthetic devices, etc.) throughout their stay.

You will maintain a safe and clean environment by preparing nursing areas and/or patient/resident rooms and beds for receiving patient/resident admissions, transfers, emergencies, or discharges, assisting in cleaning utility rooms, cleaning equipment, and preparing for disinfection or sterilization, appropriately handling clean and dirty linen, storing supplies on the service area, and performing other duties as assigned. You will also perform supply duties on a daily basis, distribute and order supplies to maintain adequate stock levels in assigned units, and float as needed to other departments in the hospital under the nurse manager, charge nurse, or staff LNs discretion.

You will dispose of all solid waste and infectious waste according to organizational policies and procedures, replenish supplies in patient/resident rooms and bathrooms as needed, and perform other duties as assigned by nurse manager, charge nurse, or staff nurse in a responsible, respectful, and caring manner to promote the most effective nursing staff relationships.

You will participate in in-services and educational programs in the department, hospital, and/or community as assigned, complete all mandatory training, complete annual competencies, evaluation material, maintain certifications and licensure, participate in patient/resident care conferences with nurse agreement as applicable, and attend and participate in at least 75% of staff meetings.
