Job Summary
Perform a variety of judicial duties in criminal and civil cases to expedite case processing as authorized by Wisconsin State Law.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct scheduling conferences and pre trials for the Civil Court.
- Conduct hearings, issue subpoenaes and administer oaths to prepare for formal hearings.
- Conduct adult intake court and preliminary hearings.
- Issue warrants and capia, when necessary.
- When assigned to Juvenile Court, conduct Detention Hearings; arraignments and pre trials; order investigations and appoint counsel as may be necessary.
- Attend Judges meetings and perform other work as may be required by the Chief Judge.
- Conduct WATTS hearing and Riverside reviews.
- Conduct other hearings as may be allowed by Statute or the Chief Judge.
Supervision Exercised
Administrative supervision of the schedules and activities of Attorneys performing the duties of auxiliary Court Commissioners.
Supervision Received
Reports to the Chief Judge District 2 under general day to day direction of Racine County Judge designated by the Chief Judge of District 2.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school of law.
- Possession of a valid license to practice law in the State of Wisconsin.
- Minimum of five years of practicing law in the State of Wisconsin, including experience in trial work.
- Extensive knowledge of pertinent judicial procedures.
- Must maintain the required number of judicial credits as required by Supreme Court Rule.
- Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.

Special Requirement
Shall not engage in the private practice of law.
Appointed in one-year intervals by the Chief Judge, District 2, as recommended by a majority of Racine County Judges.
